Buenos Aires, Argentina is the capital and largest city in Argentina, and the second-largest city in South America. Buenos Aires, located on the eastern edge of the country, along the Río Plata, is one of the most populous South American capitals and also one of the most cities visited cities on the continent. Buenos Aires is known for its European-style architecture, and rich cultural life, with the largest number of theaters in the world dotted throughout each of the city’s 15 communes, often called the “Paris of South America”.

Argentina has had a tumultuous political history, including a coup d’état in the late 20th century, which led to 30,000 disappeared Argentines. Even today one can see the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo marching in protest against the human rights atrocities that took place during the coup. Argentines are known to be expressive and passionate about politics, life, sports, music and the arts.
